Term Definition
Photosynthesis A process by which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into food energy (sugar), oxygen and water.
Cellular respiration The process by which the chemical energy of ?food? molecules is released and changed into ATP.
Chloroplast An elongated cell organelle containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll A green molecule which uses light energy from sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide gas into sugar and oxygen.
Glucose The food for the plant. It gives the pant energy to grow. It is sugar.
Mitochondria Rod-shaped organelles with a double membrane which converts the energy stored in glucose into ATP (Energy) of the cell.
Photosynthesis equation Water + Carbon Dioxide+ Light -> Oxygen + Glucose (Sugar)
Respiration equation Oxygen + Glucose (Sugar) -> Water + Carbon Dioxide + Energy
Carbon Dioxide What the animals breath out and the plants take in.
Diffusion The moment of molecules from an area in which they are highly concentrated to an area in which they are less concentrated.
Osmosis The diffusion of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
Active Transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane using cellular energy. It requires the cell to use it?s own energy. (Low to High)
