Term Definition
Photosynthesis A process by which plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into food energy(sugar.)
Cellular respiration The process by which the chemical energy of "food" molecules is released and changed in ATP.
Chloroplast An elongated cell organelle containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll A green molecule which uses light energy from sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide gas into sugar and oxygen.
Glucose The food for the pant. It gives the plant energy to grow.
Mitochondria The power house of the cell, provides energy.
Photosynthesis equation H2O+CO2+light–O2+C6H12O6
Respiration equation O2+C6H12O6–H20+CO2+ATP
Carbon dioxide Enters the plant through small openings of the leaves called stomata.
Diffusion Moving particles from a high concentration to a low concentration.
Osmosis Moving particles from a low concentration to a high concentration.
Active transport the movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy.
