Photosynthesis

Print FlashCard
Term Definition
Photosynthesis A process by which plants convert sunlight, water and carbon dioxide into food energy (sugar), oxegyen and water.
Cellular Respiation The pross by which the chemical energy of "food" molecules is released and changed into ATP (energy).
Choroplasts An elongated cell organelle containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place.
Chlorophyll A green molucule which uses light energy from the sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide gas into sugar and oxygen.
Glucose A simple sugar that is an important energy source in living organisms and is a component of many carbohydrates.
Mitochondria Rod-shape organelles with a double memdrane wich converts the energy stored in glucose into ATP (energy) for the cell.
Photosynthesis equation H2O + CO2 + light –> O2 + C6H12O6
Cellular Respration Equation O2 + C6H12O6 + –> H2O + CO2 + ATP/Energy
Carbon Dioxide Its waht animals breath out and plants take in.
Diffision The movement of molecules from an area in which they are highly concentrated to an are in which they are less concentrated.
Osmosis The diffision of water across a selectively permeable membrane.
Active transport The movement of ions or molecules across a cell membrane into a region of higher concentration, assisted by enzymes and requiring energy.
