photosynthesis

Print FlashCard
Term Definition
photosynthesis a process by wich plants convert sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide into food energy (sugar), oxygen and water
Cellular respiration The process by which the chemical energy of "food" molocules is released and changed into ATP
Chloroplasts An elongated cell organelle containing chlorophyll where photosynthesis takes place
Chlorophyll A green molocukle which uses light energy from sunlight to change water and carbon dioxide gas into sugar and oxygen
Glucose A sugary substance in which the plant can eat after photosynthesis
Mitochondria Rod-shaped organelles with double membrane which converts the energy stored in glucose into ATP for the cell
Photosynthesis equation h2o + CO2 + light –> O2 + C6H12O6
Respiration equation O2 + glucose –> H2O + CO2 + H2O
Carbon dioxide
Diffusion A movement of molocules from an area in wich they are highly concentratable to an area in wich they are less concentrated
Osmosis The diffusion of water across a selectivlypermeable membrane
Active transport The movement of materials through a cell membrane using cellular energy. It requires the cell to use its own energy. High to low concentration
