What is a state? Initiation of authority which are also thought of as institutions.
What are the four components that make up a state? Population, Territory, Sovereignty, Government.
Define a population in a state. People must be present to make a state function.
Define a territory in a state. Must have legal or historical claim to the land. Location is important due to safety and resources.
Define sovereignty in a state. The country's ability to control the country, and level independence.
Define government in a state. A functioning and trusted government makes the laws, taxes, standards, etc.
What is a nation? A group of people with a common identity which can be based on history, language and others.
What is nationalism? The psychological statement and feeling of belonging.
What are the two forms of nationalism? Ethnic and Civic.
Define Ethnic nationalism. Looking at ethnic differences.
Define Civic nationalism. Focusing less on ethnic identity and more on political symbols or institutions. Example, US.
What is government in a state? Considered an active agent in a state which is elected and is required to make decisions to look after the country.
